Experienced Military Defense When Your Career Is at Stake
Being investigated by your military command or a criminal investigative agency can be one of the most stressful experiences of a military career. What you say during an investigation can have consequences far beyond the initial interview and may ultimately be used in disciplinary or criminal proceedings.
Whether you are being investigated by your command or by an agency such as Army CID, NCIS, Air Force OSI, or Marine Corps CID, it is important to understand your rights before answering questions or making a statement.
Carmichael Ellis & Brock represents service members facing military investigations and helps protect their rights, careers, and futures throughout the investigative process..
Types of Military Investigations
Military investigations can take many forms. The nature of the investigation and the agency conducting it can affect your rights, your obligations, and the potential consequences.

Command Investigations
A service member may be investigated directly by their command following an allegation of misconduct, an incident, a complaint, or another matter requiring command review.
A command investigation may appear administrative, but its findings can potentially lead to further military action, including nonjudicial punishment, administrative separation, or referral for criminal investigation or court-martial.

Criminal Investigations
Military criminal investigative agencies investigate suspected violations of criminal law and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Depending on the branch of service, an investigation may involve:
- Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID)
- Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS)
- Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI)
- Marine Corps Criminal Investigation Division (CID)
These investigations can involve serious allegations and may ultimately result in criminal charges or a court-martial.
