United States v. K.S. - Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine- BELOW GUIDELINES
In another far-ranging federal drug conspiracy case, out of California, that was indicted and prosecuted here in the Eastpern District of Virginia, the firm achieved a stunning below-guidelines result for the client. Client was accused of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine up to 1.5 kilograms and family members contacted our lawyers when the client was incarcerated in California and awaiting transfer to Virginia. After client's release was secured, our lawyers got to work defending the case, going the extra mile and setting up early meetings around the client's travel schedule, meeting with prosecutors, and finding holes in the evidence. Eventually, a satisfactory plea was negotiated, but at the time of sentencing, the federal sentencing guidelines were up to 97 months of incarceration. In a stunning victory for the client and family, after a sentencing hearing she extensively prepared for, Ms. Carmichael secured a sentence for this client of only 18 months imprisonment- another well "below-guidelines" win for Harris, Carmichael, & Ellis, PLLC.
